The G6 borrows heavily from Huawei’s flagship smartphone, the Ascend P6, in terms of the design language. The device is slim and retains the striking beauty that characterizes the P6. Other than that, there’s nothing much juicy about its spec sheet. Not that a smartphone is all about the specs but compared to Huawei’s very finest, this device has a long way to go. However when looked at keenly and the manufacturer’s likely intentions factored, you realize you have a killer smartphone for some markets.
The Huawei Ascend G6 will be available in two variants: the 4G and 3G versions. The 4G version will be the more privileged version of the two and will come in several colours including black with light gunmetal grey, rose gold highlights and white with pink or champagne gold.
These are the key specs of the device:
- Display: 4.5 inch qHD (960 x 540… 245 ppi) LCD display
- Processor: A Cortex-A9 based HiSilicon Quad-core chip clocked at 1.2 GHz
- Memory: 1 GB RAM
- Camera: 8 megapixel main camera, 5 megapixel front-facing camera
- Battery: 2000 mAh
- OS: Android 4.2 with Emotion UI 2.0 (Huawei touts over 1000 available themes to make sure you don’t easily get tempted to go back to your usual coterie of Android launchers like Nova).
- Others: NFC
The G6 will go on sale by the end of this first quarter of the year and from April for the 3G and 4G versions respectively. In Europe, the device will go for $342 unlocked. That should just tell you that this device is not your casual mid-ranger.
