InnJoo, a mobile device brand that has been slowly making inroads in the Middle East and Africa market (and elsewhere in the world, too) by taking advantage of e-commerce platforms Jumia in African countries and Souq.com in the Middle East, is hoping that the sequel to its successful InnJoo 2 flagship smartphone is what it needs to announce its big arrival on the regional smartphone stage.

The company unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the InnJoo 3, in partnership with Taiwan-based chipmaker MediaTek at the ongoing GITEX Technology Week in Dubai.

Thanks to the partnership with MediaTek, the InnJoo 3 arrives with one of the few MediaTek chipsets with built-in LTE support, the MT6750T that was launched in January this year. The 5.5-inch device with a full HD display will also have InnJoo’s RapidCharge tech which is basically the company’s own way of referring to fast charging. MediaTek’s own fast charging is branded Pump Express.

The device has an all-metal body.

Other specifications of the device include 4GB RAM, 64 GB onboard storage (expandable via microSD), a 21-megapixel camera at the back with an f/1.8 aperture paired with an 8-megapixel shooter on the front, Android Marshmallow, a 3,000mAh battery and a USB Type-C port. Basically, much of this comes close to matching the spec sheet of another brand’s flagship device, Tecno Mobile’s Phantom 6 Plus which I am currently trying out. Since Tecno is one of the foremost brands in the region, more than anything else, it not only announces intent but may be even declares war which will be interesting to watch.

Unlike its predecessor, the InnJoo 2, and all other InnJoo smartphones before it, the InnJoo 3 breaks with tradition and includes a physical home button. That’s not the big news, though. The news is that for the first time ever, the brand is putting the fingerprint scanner on the front button just like Apple and Samsung have been doing. With Tecno and Infinix all having the fingerprint sensor on their devices at the back, will this be a gamechanger for InnJoo?

The InnJoo 3 will be available in Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco and Ivory Coast in Africa in Gold, Grey, Black and Blue colours. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will be getting the device in the Middle East while Spain, Portugal and Italy will also be getting it.
