The current messaging apps that we have today have enabled us to communicate with friends and colleagues all over the world and the conversations are neatly arranged in conversation threads in the app. However as times go by, you end up communicating to several people and this means you might get lost in the list when you’re chatting with several people at a go.
That is why a feature like chat pinning is great for messaging apps. It allows you to pin your favourite conversations to the top of the pile and now WhatsApp has integrated that on the Android app and on desktop.
On my WhatsApp for Android beta (ver. 2.17.264), the company is testing a way for you to pin your favourite chats on top of your chat feed. This will allow you to quickly reply to your favourite people to talk to easily instead of scrolling down to look for the shared conversation thread. This would be great for the chatty among us who chat constantly with so many people at the same time.
All you have to do is long press on the chat you want to pin and you will be presented with a pinning thumbtack icon at the top which you tap to pin the chat. There is a limit however since you can only pin only a maximum of three threads on top of your feed, which is less than what we have on Telegram where you can pin upto 5 chats on your feed. The same system is employed on WhatsApp Web or desktop where you long press the chat of choice to pin it.
This feature was spotted by WABetaInfo as early as 15th March this year where it was disabled by default on the beta Android app. The same guys noted that it was activated on the weekend by default on both the Android app and on desktop.
