The mute feature has been a standard feature in Twitter’s arsenal to help its users combat trolls or filter what they don’t want to see on their feed. They have updated it over time to include filtering content on their notifications and now they are expanding its limits to other frontiers.
In an updated support article, Twitter will now give users more control over muting content on your notifications.
Under your settings, you’ll now be able to mute new accounts that you don’t follow, accounts that don’t follow you and accounts you dont follow.
This is an update to the previous expanded capabilities of the mute button where you can mute accounts without a profile photo, those that don’t have a confirmed email address and phone number.
Just like before, go to your notifications tab on your Android or iOS app, tap on the gear icon, go to advanced filters and select the filters of choice. On the web, go to settings, notifications and select the filters of choice.
This is part of Twitter’s efforts to restore its image after being constantly criticized as a hub for trolls to run riot. Since then, they have been doing such efforts like making the block button more effective than ever and now expanding the functionality of the mute button. These are features that are surprisingly available in the third party Twitter apps and it is good they are being rolled out to the official apps.
