Samsung’s IFA 2017 Announcements are Gadgets to Keep You Fit

According to Samsung, the new normal for wearable technology isn’t just an activity tracker that counts your steps, “it’s about enhanced connectivity to deliver an entire wellness manager and make our lives healthier.” With this in mind, Samsung has unveiled three new wearable devices at IFA 2017.

The new wearables are the Gear Sport, Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear Icon X. The Gear Sport is packed with features such as GPS, run-pacing and nutrition tracking, the Fit2 Pro is simply an advanced GPS fitness band and the Gear IconX (2018) are cord-free earbuds.

Gear Sport

Gear Sport features a circular bezel encamping around a 1.2-inch always-on Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360*360 and covered in Gorilla glass 3. It runs Tizen OS, that Samsung says has an improved user interface that makes it easy to view information, even when on-the-go, has 4GB of internal memory, 768MB RAM, Bluetooth 4.2, wireless charging, a 300mAh battery and water resistance.

The Gear Sport supports Samsung Galaxy devices running Android 4.3 and above, smartphones running Android 4.4 and above and iOS 9.0 and above. With Gear Sport, users can work to achieve health and wellness goals, and receive nutrition management alerts and activity recommendations even when they are offline.

Gear Sport will be available in Blue and Black and also includes Gear foundational functions:

  • Control of Samsung IoT-enabled devices through Samsung Connect
  • Act as a remote control, whether for a PowerPoint presentation or Samsung Gear VR headset
  • Pay for goods with a flick of the wrist via Samsung Pay (NFC Only)4

Gear Fit 2 Pro

In addition to the new swim and heart rate monitoring capabilities, the new Gear Fit2 Pro features advanced built-in GPS tracking to capture your run or ride with accurate activity tracking. Gear Fit2 Pro features a Super AMOLED curved 1.5-inch display and a resolution of 216*432 and covered with Gorilla Glass 3.

Other features include Tizen OS, 4GB internal storage, 512MB RAM, Bluetooth 4.2, 200mAh battery, Water resistance and supports smartphones running Android 4.4 and above and iOS 9.0 and above. The Gear Fit 2 Pro will be available in Black and Red.

Gear IconX

The IconX cord-free earbuds come with a connection to Bixby, that will be established with a simple tap and hold of the earbud enabling you to use your voice to control your music or your phone.

For the fitness enthusiast, the Gear IconX automatically tracks your running routines and also features the standalone Running Coach function which can be activated by simply tapping the earbud to provide in-ear audioexercise status updates – in real-time and without your phone.With a fast-charging and improved battery life of up to five hours of music streaming or seven hours of standalone music playback, and up to 4GB of internal storage, you can enjoy a seamless and fully standalone music listening experience.

Other notable features include fast-charging, 4GB internal storage, improved battery life of up to five hours of music streaming or seven hours of standalone music playback and USB-C connectivity. The IconX supports devices running Android 4.4 and above with not less than 1.5GB of RAM.
