The OPPO F5 is a midrange device with quite a spec sheet that at least tries to match the crème de la crème of 2017. Setting the OPPO F5 aside from its competition is a 6” display that comes with the new 18:9 aspect ratio, AI-powered beautification for your selfies and face unlock.
Other specifications of the OPPO F5 include:
- 4GB of RAM
- 32GB internal storage
- A 3200mAh battery
- A MediaTek Helio P23 Processor
- Android 7.1.1 with ColorOS 3.2 on top.
Truth is, the specs don’t excite that much, we have seen the competition, the likes of Infinix and TECNO, up their game when it comes to specifications but the perspective changes when you start using the OPPO F5. Then you will appreciate the huge display, minimal bezels and compact body. Despite the body being made out of Polycarbonate plastic that I was at first convinced in aluminium, the phone feels quite premium.
The highlight of an OPPO smartphone is its cameras – like the company markets their phones as camera phones and true to it, the camera on the OPPO F5 is amazing. Every picture that I took had that wow factor. The 16MP camera on the F5 does a really good job, even in low light situations.
Aside from taking amazing selfies, the front-facing camera is also used for F5’s next selling point, the Face Unlock. All you have to do is look at your screen when unlocking your phone and you’re in, at least in optimal conditions, that is, well-lit areas. It is so fast, it gets annoying when you just want to look at your lock screen for notifications and the phone unlocks.
The biggest downside of the OPPO F5 is its software. No, it’s not slow, on the contrary, ColorOS performs better than the competition, however, the copy-paste relationship ColorOS has with Apple’s iOS is what is disappointing and you will either like it or completely hate.
With my one month of usage, I have loved the OPPO F5, well, aside from a few nitpicky issues here and there, like the use of the old school USB port instead of USB-C and lack of a dual camera set-up. The truth is that, the OPPO F5 is a great camera phone that not only looks good and futuristic but performs well for daily use as well. You cannot go wrong with this device, here’s my full review:
