Huawei Y5 Prime (2018) Back

Huawei Y5 Prime (2018) BackWhenever you hear the word budget smartphone, you always think of lacklustre user experience and to some extent, this is true. While Huawei does an amazing job with their flagships, they have for the longest while struggled to push the perfect budget smartphone to the consumer, well until the Y-Series happened.

Focus on this year’s Y5 Prime, which is going head to head with the likes of Infinix Hot 6 and TECNO Spark 2, the Y5 Prime does put up a good fight, especially when it comes to on-paper specifications. Offering a 5.45-inch HD display in the stylish 18:9 aspect ratio, the Huawei Y5 Prime (2018) combines 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage to offer an edge with the user experience over its competition.

Speaking during the launch of the Huawei Y5 Prime, the company’s Marketing Head in Kenya, Derek Duh noted that the new device is aimed at appealing to the tech savvy and socially fashionable youth. “We are delighted to announce the arrival of Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 in the Kenyan market as we focus on increasing our market share by at least 40%,” he added.

Aside from putting an emphasis on the improved performance of the device, Huawei also mentioned that the 5MP selfie shooter on the Y5 Prime (2018) has been specially tailored for the young generations who are keen on taking selfies. The device has a complimentary selfie toning flash that automatically detects the lighting and adjusts the brightness.

Like most other devices in 2018, the Y5 Prime also features a facial unlock. However, this feature is not available out of the box and one will need to update their phone to receive it, something we recommend you do, considering the Y5 Prime (2018) does not feature a fingerprint scanner.

As mentioned earlier, Huawei has really put in an effort to make this device stand out from the budget crowd by bundling additional features that are meant ti enhance the user experience, such as; a Karaoke mode which allows users to hear their voice from the headset when singing with the karaoke app as well as gesture support for double tapping to wake the screen and three-finger swipe screenshot. All that for Kes.9,999.

Other features of the Huawei Y5 Prime (2018) include:

  • 13MP main camera
  • Android 8.1.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 on top
  • 4G Support
  • Dual SIM
  • 3020mAh battery
