Telkom Kenya has been around for a long time and in that period, the telecommunications company has undergone multiple changes, the latest being a major rebrand from Orange Kenya back to Telkom after U.K.’s Helios Group acquired the majority stake of the company (Telkom).

As a step to regain its lost glory in the telecommunications business that is mostly dominated by Safaricom, Telkom Kenya announced appealing data plans and connectivity options for its customers. Its enterprise division (Telkom Enterprise) focuses on providing connectivity services to businesses, and not to isolate residential areas, Telkom Kenya offers home plans for customers who fall within the telco’s ever-increasing LTE-covered zones.

It should be noted that home bundles can be offered weekly, monthly or a 3-month period. Before opting in, customers must buy a Telkom 4G router from any of its many shops or third-party retailers. Accompanying the router is a 4G SIM card where new customers (those who have not used the service before, but since Telkom’s 4G was announced a month ago, then we’ll assume that most of the adopters are new customers) will be gifted with a welcome-home-and-be-loyal 10GB bundle that will be valid for 30 long days.

Existing customers (those who have been using Telkom Home Plans with router with old plans) can purchase a 4G SIM card and enjoy new plans. In like manner, existing customers on Hometalk are also welcome on the new home-bundles train. However, they all need a 4G router in their possession (assuming they did not have one) to experience superfast 4G internet speeds – and it has to be Telkom router. Remember, the SIM card that is popped into the router is different from your normal Telkom mobile number – in fact, you cannot use your Telkom mobile number to purchase home data bundles.

Home plans are also bundled with the following features:

  • a flat rate of KES 2 per MB upon exhausting data bundle allocation
  • if you have not exhausted your allocation and renew your subscription before the expiry date, your allocation will be rolled over and accumulate else…
  • unused data will expire. They will never be rolled over.
  • Other incentives include a KES 4 per minute call rates on/off net and KES 1 per SMS to any network.

The weekly plan has two options that cost KES 499 and KES 999 for 3GB and 10 GB respectively.

Second is the 30-day plan that has 5 options:

  • 5GB for KES 999
  • 10 GB for KES 1499
  • 20 GB for KES 1999
  • 35 GB for KES 2999
  • Unlimited gigs for KES 3999 (of course with fair usage policy. Upon burning through 50GB, speeds will be capped at 1mbps)

Lastly, the 90-day plan calls for KES 5999 fee accompanied by 100 gigs.
