At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor announced a bold new strategy to position itself at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) innovation.

CEO James Li unveiled the ‘Honor Alpha Plan,’ a comprehensive initiative that includes a $10 billion investment over the next five years to integrate AI across the company’s product ecosystem.

Historically recognized for its smartphones, Honor is set to diversify its offerings by developing AI-powered personal computers, tablets, and wearable devices. This strategic shift aims to create a seamless, interconnected AI ecosystem that enhances user experience across multiple device platforms.

Phases of the Alpha Plan

  1. Developing an Intelligent Phone: Honor plans to introduce advanced AI-driven smartphones equipped with personal mobile AI agents capable of performing tasks such as making restaurant reservations by understanding and interacting with on-screen content.
  2. Co-Creating an Intelligent Ecosystem: The company aims to foster an open AI ecosystem by collaborating with industry leaders like Google Cloud and Qualcomm to enable seamless integration across various devices and platforms.
  3. Unlocking Human Potential: In the advanced stages, Honor envisions leveraging AI to enhance productivity and societal development, redefining the role of technology in daily life.

Demonstrating a strong commitment to its user base, Honor announced that its flagship devices would receive seven years of software updates.

This extended support ensures long-term security and functionality, addressing a common concern among consumers regarding device longevity.

This substantial investment underscores Honor’s ambition to position itself as a leader in the AI device ecosystem, challenging established competitors in the global market.

The company’s proactive approach to AI integration reflects a broader industry trend toward intelligent, interconnected devices that cater to evolving consumer needs.

As Honor embarks on this transformative journey, the tech industry will be keenly observing how the Alpha Plan unfolds and influences the future of AI-driven devices.
