Make no mistake; it is not the second generation Galaxy Beam device. It is actually the third generation Galaxy Beam smartphone coming after the low key 2010 device and much more pronounced model that showed up at MWC 2012. Seems thereβs actually a market for a smartphone with a built-in projector since Samsung is still pushing on with the idea four years later.
Headed to China Mobile, the SM-G3858 spots a WVGA resolution built-in pico-projector while spotting the flatter TouchWiz UI that Samsung introduced this year with the Galaxy S5 but modified by being toned down a bit so as to accommodate the somewhat old Android version it is running.
Like its predecessors, the Galaxy Beam 2 maintains its tradition of not packing top of the range specs but being more of a niche mid-range device.
Specs of the device are as follows:
- Size/weight: 134.5 x 70 x 11.7 mm, 166g
- Display: 4.7 inch WVGA LCD
- Processor: Quad-core unnamed processor clocked at 1.2 GHz
- Camera: 5 MP
- Memory: 1 GB RAM
- OS: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
- Battery: 2600 mA
- Others: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS/GLONASS
While weβre not sure which other markets beyond China this device will be available in, we can be sure that its availability will be limited, just like its predecessors.
