U Film It – Keep the Peace intends to help spread the peace message to Kenyans using video. All you have to do is create a short video using your mobile phone, camera, camcorder, laptop or tablet sending a peace message to all Kenyans. Simply offer your take on what peace means to you and why it is important.
To participate in the U Film It- Keep The Peace campaign, all you have to do is create a short video of not more than 3 minutes sending a peace message to all Kenyans during this election period 2012/2013. You can use any camera that is available i.e mobile phone camera, webcam, camcorder, laptop or tablet to record your peace message.
Simply offer your take on what peace means to you and why it is important. You may also creatively show how you will make a difference no matter how big or small the action is. For instance, you can show us how peace brings people together, importance of peace in the home, workplace or in your community.
Once you have created the short video, upload the video clip to our video contest site www.ufilmit.co.ke and invite your friends and the world to watch the video, share it and leave comments. The most inspirational peace messages will be awarded cash prizes with the winner bagging of Kshs 50,000=00.
Other cash prizes are Kshs 25,000=00 and Kshs 15,000=00 for 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

1.General Contest rules
- Opening date: 1st September 2012
- Closing date – submit your entry before midnight on 15TH November 2012.
2. Who Can Enter
i. This contest is only open to Kenyans who live, reside, study or work in Kenya.
ii. You must be 18 years of age or over or possess legal parental or guardian consent, and are fully able and competent to enter into the terms, conditions, obligations, affirmations, representations, and warranties set forth in the Terms and Conditions of Use and Service, and to abide by and comply with these Terms and Conditions of Use and Service.
iii. All uploaded videos will be scrutinized by our team of administrators before publishing to the site to ensure they meet and comply fully with U Film It contest rules and regulations.
iv. Public voting of videos amongst other rating variables (percentage views and rating weights) will determine one weekly finalist at the end of every week for 10 weeks. Each weekly finalist will receive a prize as incentive for participation.
v. Final entries will be evaluated by a judging panel consisting of professionals and experts from the film and media industry and fraternity. The winners will awarded with their cash prizes at an event to be announced on U Film It website in the month of December 2012.
How To Enter The Contest

General
U-Film-It – Keep The Peace is an online video contest running for a period of 10 weeks to help spread the word of peace. Filming can be done from any video recording device.
Step 1
Take your video recording equipment – Mobile Phone, Camera etc and go out and make a short film of not more than 3 minutes in length. Make the film/ video as interesting and creative as possible. It is upon you to go out and apply your own creativity in making a video that will effectively fit into the topic: Keep the Peace – How will you keep the peace? All videos must be in English or Swahili. All other Non-English language films or videos must include English subtitles.
Step 2
Once you have made a short film or video, you now need to transfer the video file to a computer.
Step 3:
Log on to www.ufilmit.co.ke and register with U Film It platform to create a user account. Alternatively you may want to log in with your Twitter account.
Step 4
Read the Terms and Conditions of the contest and click in the appropriate box at the end of the contract to confirm that you have read, understood and agreed with the terms and conditions of the contest.
Step 5:
Go the “Video Upload Form” Browse for your video file and input the title and description of your video (including your name, location and contacts) in the fields provided. Also write a brief synopsis (summary) of the film you have uploaded of not more than 120 characters describing the story line of your film.
Step 6:
After you have entered all the required information in the fields provided, click on ‘Submit this Video” button to begin uploading your video. This process may take some time so please be patient.
Step 7:
After the upload process is complete participants will have 24 hours to receive an official communication via the email address they sent of whether their film is eligible for publishing or not. Please bear with us at this stage as all videos must be scrutinized by our team of administrators before publishing to the site to ensure they meet and comply fully with U Film It- Keep The Peace contest rules and regulations.
Step 8:
Once your short film or video is published onto U Film It website, you can invite friends to view, rate and vote for your video to enable you stand a chance to win our filmmakers cash prizes.
Voting & Winner Selection
The contest will run for 10 weeks. Public rating of videos amongst other rating variables (Relevance to Theme, Creativity, Technical Aspects) will determine one weekly finalist at the end of every week for 10 weeks. Each weekly finalist will receive a prize as incentive for participation.
A contest week will begin on Saturday and end on Friday of the following week. Videos submitted in a particular week will be batched or grouped with other videos submitted in that particular week as Takes. For example:
- Week 1 runs from 1st September 2012 to 7th September 2012. All videos submitted in this time-frame will be grouped and rated together as Take 1.
- Week 2 runs from 8th September 2012 – 15th September 2012. All videos submitted in this time frame will be grouped and rated as Take 2.
Announcement of the weekly finalist will be done every Monday for 10 weeks.
i.Each weekly finalist will complete with winners of subsequent weeks for the top prize.
ii.Determination of top 3 winners from 10 finalists will be done by a panel of 3 judges selected from the film and media industry and fraternity. The overall winner of the contest will be announced after 7 days of closure of the contest on U Film It website. The judge’s decision is final.
iii. The winner will awarded with their cash prizes at an event to be announced on U Film It website in the month of December 2012.
2. About Your Video
There is no limit on the amount of times you may enter this competition, although you will only be eligible to win only one award. A participant may submit as many videos as they wish. A participant may choose to edit their videos before submission to enhance storytelling and creativity.
Music and Images
You must be the copyright holder to any music and/ or sound recording or images you include in your film or video or have obtained permission from the composer, publisher and/ record company to use it. This includes background music. The mobile phone film or video must not infringe the rights of privacy and publicity, copyright, trademarks or intellectual property rights of any person or organisation.
Clear all rights
You the entrant affirm, represent, and warrant that you own or have the necessary licenses, rights, consents, and permissions to submit the film or video content to U Film It. This means it’s your own original work and that anyone who appears in it or whose work you have used in it have agreed to being filmed and their performance being filmed. This includes but is not limited to brands, artwork, stills, video, and music. It is your responsibility to identify and clear all copyright and/or other intellectual property rights which belong to a third party included in your video. When you submit your video, all rights must be cleared.
Keep it clean
We will not accept any film or video content we deem to be pornography, obscenity, vulgarity, harmfulness, threats, abuses, harassment, defamation, hate, unlawfulness; and films or videos that are tribally, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable. U Film It may at any time, without prior notice and in their sole discretion, remove such film or video content and/or terminate a user’s account for submitting such material in violation of the Terms and Conditions of Use and Service.
The Prize
The winner shall receive Kshs 50,000=00 (fifty thousand shillings only) in cash. The 2nd place winner will receive Kshs 25,000=00 (twenty five thousand shillings only) in cash. The 3rd place will receive Kshs 15,000=00 (fifteen thousand only) in cash.
Winner Publicity
Participants agree to allow their video, name, likeness and voice to be used freely without compensation if required by U Film It, their parent corporation, officers, directors, employees and agents for advertising, publicity or other purposes.
