When Samsung launched the S6 and S6 Edge back in 2015, it marked the beginning of a new era. It was the first time we were seeing the company use premium materials on its phones and moving away from all the plastic that Samsung fans had been accustomed to. The S6 Edge was also the first device to bring the dual curved display design that is so prominent on Samsung flagships today.
A few hours ago, Samsung updated their supported devices list and missing from the list was the S6 and S6 Edge flagships. This is not surprising, as the S6 series has received major Android updates and monthly security updates. The device launched with Android 5.0 Lollipop on board and it has since been updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow then Android 7.0 Nougat, albeit at a snail’s pace.
It was expected that the South Korean multinational would eventually call it quits with the S6 series, seeing that it had completed its two-year update cycle. However, the S6 Edge+ and S6 Active are still present on the supported devices list.
Those among you with Galaxy S6 smartphones, Samsung is indirectly telling you to upgrade to newer devices such as the S9. In case you are worried about your Samsung device’s lifespan coming to an end, here’s a list of currently supported Galaxy smartphones:
