Samsung Skips Galaxy A74, Announces A54 and A34 with Water and Dust Seals

Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy A34 and A54. As expected, there is no A74 this time around, which is kind of a bummer because we loved the A73 from last year, although we never got to review it. This is likely because Samsung plans to introduce the S23 FE, which will likely be a successor to the A7x models, although the FE devices still cost more than the A7x (the S20 FE and S21 FE were pricier than the A72 and A73).

To note, the A series is for people who cannot afford the Galaxy S lineup or do not want to spend a lot of cash for the same. Over the last couple of years, Samsung has really made a case with the lineup because the phones have been awesome, with big batteries, big screens, and some software features borrowed from the expensive Galaxy S series (such as an IP rating and faster screens).

The Galaxy A54 is the compact phone with a 6.4″ 1080p Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Vision Booster support. It tips the scales at 202g.

On the other hand, the Galaxy A34 is bigger, with a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with the now ageing notch and with the same resolution, refresh rate, and Vision Booster support. It weighs 199g.

Both phones have an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, as well as a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging.

However, they use different chipsets, with the Galaxy A54 powered by the 5nm Exynos 1380 and the Galaxy A34 featuring the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 1080.

Both are available with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of expandable storage.

Here is a full list of their specifications:
