Samsung Galaxy S24 Series Officially Launched in Kenya

Samsung has lifted the veil on its latest flagship series, the Galaxy S24 series which comprises the Ultra, the Plus and the regular model during this year’s first Unpacked event.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

The S24 Ultra features a flat design with boxy edges just like its predecessor.

It has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ resolution and 2600 nits peak brightness which is an improvement over the S23 ultra which had 1750 nits peak brightness.

It also has Gorilla Glass Armor protection for the glass back and front and a titanium frame.

The Ultra features a 200MP main camera with OIS capable of shooting up to 8K video. It has a 50MP periscope telephoto with 5X optical zoom, a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide lens that supports Super Steady video. The main and both telephoto lenses have OIS.

The selfie camera is a 12MP shared across the series that can shoot 4K video at either 30fps and 60fps.

It comes powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 paired with 12GB RAM and storage starting at 256GB.

It ships with Android 14 and OneUI 6.1 straight out of the box and this is across the board with up to 7 years of major Android OS support so the series could get upgrades to Android 21.

It has a 5000mAh battery that supports fast 45W charging and the company says it can juice up the phone from empty to 65% in under 30 minutes. It also supports 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless.

The Ultra has IP68 ingress protection plus support for the S pen. Other features include stereo sound and speakers, HDR10+, ultrasonic under-display fingerprint reader, Samsung DeX, Samsung Wireless DeX, AKG-tuned sound, Bluetooth 5.3 support for UWB and WiFi 7

Colour options include Titanium Black, Titanium Gray, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow.

The S24 Plus has a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ resolution and 2600 nits peak brightness. It is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus for both front and back. It has an aluminium frame.

It has a 50MP main camera with OIS that can also shoot 8K video, a 10MP telephoto with OIS and 3X optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide lens that supports Super Steady video.

It has a 4900mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging and the company says it can get the phone from empty to 65% in under 30 minutes. It supports 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

The Plus has IP68 ingress protection and comes in Amber Yellow, Cobalt Violet, Marble Gray, and Onyx Black.

International models including Kenya and South Korea get the S24 Plus powered by Exynos 2400 while the US and Canada get Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. RAM and storage options start at 12GB and 256GB respectively.

Other features include stereo sound and speakers, HDR10+, ultrasonic under-display fingerprint reader, Samsung DeX, Samsung Wireless DeX, AKG-tuned sound, Bluetooth 5.3 support for UWB and WiFi 7.

The regular S24 has a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X FHD resolution and 2600 nits peak brightness.

It shares most features with the plus model including the camera and design – Gorilla Glass Victus protection and aluminium frame.

The only difference is that it comes with 8GB RAM and storage options starting at 256GB.

Like the Plus model, the base model S24 gets Exynos 2400 while the US and Canada get Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

The battery capacity is 4000mAh with support for 25W fast charging which the company says can charge up the phone from empty to 50% in under 30 minutes. It supports 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

Galaxy AI

Samsung took to the stage also to announce Galaxy AI. Galaxy AI comes featuring both on-device and Cloud-based processing. Galaxy AI will have skills like live translate calling, generative photo editing, Note Assist that summaries, formats and translates notes.

Pricing and Availability – Pre-order details and Goodies

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is available on Samsung’s official retail stores and Safaricom shops.

  • Samsung Galaxy S24: Ksh 174,999(8GB RAM +256GB storage)
  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus: Ksh 189,999(12GB RAM +256GB storage)
  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus: Ksh 234,999(12GB RAM +512GB storage)
  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Ksh 274,999(12GB RAM +256GB storage)
  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Ksh 276,999(12GB RAM +512GB storage)

Pre-orders are now available from 18th January until February 14th. Samsung adds that if you make a pre-order for the 256GB storage version of any of the S24 series, they will reward you with the 512GB storage version of that phone.

And a cherry on top of that pre-order deal is that customers also get access to Samsung Galaxy VIP services which allows you to get same-day repair for your devices.

If you pre-order from Safaricom shops, you get 45GB of free data. JTL Fiber’s subscribers aren’t left out as they will offer free 65GB data and free 50 minutes to other networks.

If you purchase the S24 series, you get free access to Kenya Airways lounges through their Asante Rewards program and one free preferred seating, extra legroom, 75% bonus miles for every flight and a free extra bag.

Financing and Trade-in Options

Samsung has partnered with Absa, Watu Credit and Badili Africa to offer affordable financing options.

If you are an ABSA credit card holder, you can buy the S24 series smartphones with repayments starting from Khs 13,000 per month.

Samsung says that they will top up to Ksh 20,000 the value of your trade-in phone when opting to upgrade to any Galaxy S24 series smartphone.
