The race as to which company will grab the African LTE (Long Term Evolution technology)market is on, Huawei just recently grabbed the opposrtunity to be the first company to implement it in West Africa, this being in Nigeria. The competition is between Huawei, Nokia Siemens Networks and Samsung as the main service providers. Success is gauged mainly on who nabs the mobile carrier with the most numbers, like in Kenya the company that provides LTE for Safaricom will definately be the most successfully, its B2B business. Safaricom is still testing LTE and we should hear some news in the not so far future.
Huawei was selected to deploy western Africa’s first LTE TDD commercial network for ZODA FONES, Nigeria’s leading telecoms operator. There is a need to upgrade to LTE with the fast uptake of mobile internetn made possible by the smartphone purchase numbers and use. The Huawei end-to-end SingleRAN LTE TDD solution will span the whole of the Nigeria capital and surrounding areas.
