With most OEMs almost mid-way through seeding the Android 4.4 KitKat update to their flagship devices from the previous year and almost all new mid-range to high end devices shipping with it, its adoption has doubled in just under a month. KitKat now stands at 5.9% in data collected by Google for devices accessing the Play Store in the 7 day period ending yesterday.
Gingerbread’s presence continued declining while Jelly Bean’s dominance seems to have been affected by KitKat’s settling in at just under 62%… around the same percentage it held last month. In all, Android 4 accounts for slightly over 80% or over three quarters.
