If you are a follower of Technology, you may have stumbled upon popular tech website recode. Recode was a created after its editors Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher split from the Wallstreet Journal where they ran the Journal’s digital site AllThingsD. AllThingsD was popular for its coverage of the business side of technology as well as hosting popular tech conferences.
Recode will now join a growing array of websites owned by Vox Media. VoxMedia also holds interests in The Verge, Polygon and sports website SB Nation . Joining Vox will offer recode access to a bigger audience as Vox’s sites have over 53 million monthly unique visitors. Recode has only 1.5 million visitors monthly. Recode will also enjoy company resources such as marketing and ad sales.
Interestingly both Recode and The Verge cover technology news but Vox has since clarified this saying the two have divided responsibilities with recode covering the business side of Tech while The Verge focuses on technology from a lifestyle perspective. Some teams such as the product review team of Recode will move to The Verge with Walt Mossberg contributing to The Verge’s product review. Another tech news site, GigaOm, shut down earlier this year and is set to make a comeback in June.
