For the health conscious and weight watchers out there, it can prove essential for you to know exactly what is in the food you eat, that is, the amount of calories, percentage of protein, sugar, fat content, and carbs among other things.
There are a number of applications out there that cater for such needs for example the popular health and fitness app, Calorie counter –MyFitnessPal, which has a database of over 5,000,000 foods that make it fast and easy to calculate calories and eventually lead to weight loss. It’s an amazing diet app. But what if you are not really into losing weight or keeping track of a diet? What if you are just curious and inquisitive?
Well you do not have to commit yourself to an application. That’s where Spe.lt comes in. Spe.lt is a simple, fast and beautifully executed web application that will show you instant nutritional information about the food that you type into the search box. It also allows you to add items to a list where you can get your total consumption.
This is a handy tool with no strings attached. Just one simple search bar in a beautifully designed interface. However, please note that the developers will collect the information that you type in the search bar in order to know what visitors are interested in, something I see no problem with.
Noticeably is the fact that it uses US measuring standards and US specific foods which I am not surprised. Therefore searches like the one pictured below, will probably not give you any results. Rather estimate and use equivalents.
Play around with it and find out what you are putting in your body.
