Safaricom recently unveiled a 60-day promo as part of its 15th Anniversary. The Promo dubbed Shangwe Mtaani will see Safaricom customers win prizes totaling to Kshs. 100 million, which include devices, airtime and cash prizes. The promo targets seven regions across the country including Nairobi, Mt. Kenya, Nyanza, Western, Rift Valley, Coast and Eastern where 116,000 customers slated to win various rewards.
Previously, Safaricom held a nationwide promo with one grand prize winner. Unlike with previous promos that have one Grand Prize winner nation-wide, the Shangwe Mtaani promo will see a grand prize winner from each region take home Kshs. 3 million which sets the competition aside. Speaking to Techweez, Safaricom’s Director for Consumer Business Sylvia Mulinge said the competition is meant to reach all customers who use the telcos services. “For sometime, our customers in the regions have complained that winners in most campaigns are from Nairobi. With this competition we want to bring shared prosperity and offer all subscribers an equal chance to win”, she said.
Safaricom further sees the competition as a chance to celebrate the diversity of Kenyans. “Most of the communication for this campaign is customized to fit the various regions targeted. This is in itself appreciating the uniqueness of the Kenyan flavor”, she added. To compete in the competition, a subscriber will send their name via SMS to 29555. Once subscribed, customers will receive information of which region they belong to based on their current network location at the time of registration. Customers will then participate in the promo by responding to SMS questions which will cost Kshs 5 per SMS. Subscribers will then earn entries for registration and for responding to the questions after which, they will enter a daily, weekly and grand draws for their regions.
Customers can through dialing *100# and select option 5, a customer is offered the choice to change the region from which they are playing, they can also check the number of entries they have available in the competition. Other

The competition which begun on October 2nd runs till 1st December 2015.
