AppsSmartphones without apps is like launching a modern train without an online booking platform – oh wait, they did that. But you don’t need to make the same mistake, smartphones are powerful gadgets and with the right apps, you can make your experience more fulfilling.

We came up with a short list of apps that we think will be of great use to you, you’ve probably heard of these apps before, but in case you haven’t, you’re welcome.

Parallel Space

For those of you who live double lives or for one reason or the other you’ve ever wanted to have two WhatsApp accounts on your device, Parallel Space is the perfect app for you. Parallel Space creates a virtual environment within your phone that lets you clone apps installed on your phone so that you can have two of each (or at least the ones you choose to clone).

Parallel Space

Each app is independent of the other and there are customization settings to allow you to set custom notifications for your cloned apps.

Quik

Very few apps let you create good video clips from photos or videos that you have taken. Quik is an app that was developed by GoPro –  makers of the most famous action cameras, with the aim of making it easy for users to “create awesome videos with a few taps”.

Quick

One simply chooses photos and videos from his/her collection and the app does the rest. The algorithm behind it is kind of complex but in easy terms, it analyzes the footage to find great moments, adds beautiful transitions and effects, and syncs everything to the beat of the music.

Customization options such as adding text, filters and music.

My Data Manager

Yeah, this will be gold to all Safaricom users. The issue of what takes up your data has been discussed over and over but on way to ensure that your data is not magically disappearing, is to arm yourself with an app such as My Data Manager.

This app lets you keep track of your mobile data usage, talk-time minutes and the number of texts you have sent. It also tracks the amount of data you have used over Wi-Fi and over roaming.

My Data Manager

It has the options of setting a data plan through which you can limit how much data/sms/minutes you use per week, daily or monthly.

Last Pass

If you hate the crazy password requirements that platforms have nowadays and you often forget your passwords, then Last Pass should be your best friend.

All you have to do, is simply create an account, then secure all your passwords in one secure place. If you find it hard to come up with your own passwords for the various platforms you use, Last Pass can generate passwords for you. The app has the ability to autofill usernames and passwords for the platforms you have saved in it.

Furthermore, one can store sensitive information within the app as secure notes, such as KRA PIN, Passport number.

We couldn’t add any screenshots because the app does not allow screenshots.

Mula

A kenyan-made app that we have featured before but never get tired of talking about. Mula is a payments app that will let you easily pay for bills such as pay tv, parking, electricity, water and even buy airtime.

Mula

The app works well with airtel money, M-Pesa and Equitel and the one main reason we’re recommending it is how well it integrates with the various services that you will be paying for. No need to remember paybill numbers and once you make a payment, the app will remember the account details thus you won’t have to enter your account details each time you want to make a payment.
