Instagram is actually doing very well as yesterday, they announced that they’ve finally hit the 800 million monthly user mark. This is a growth of 100 million users in 6 months and it is now close to two and a half times bigger than Twitter when you compare their active user counts.

Such a huge community means that companies need to equip the users with tools that can be used to deal with trolls, who can be a nuisance to some.

Instagram is doing just that with their new feature: Comment Controls. According to the company, you will see a new way to choose who can comment on your posts. You can choose whether to allow comments from everyone and block comments from certain people.

This feature will bolster the automatic filter announced in June that hide offensive comments and the manual filter that allows you to filter certain phrases using keywords. Today, Instagram has expanded this feature by adding support for Arabic, French, German and Portuguese.

Other features announced today by Instagram include:

Anonymous Reporting for Live Video where you can report anonymously someone who you think is going through a difficult time and may need support during a live broadcast. Instagram has teams working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to these reports.

Kindness Walls and Stickers which is Instagram’s move to give a platform to users to make someone’s day. Just take a photo or video and share a kind comment to make someone’s day or add the kindness themed heart shaped stickers.
