We got our hands on the Huawei Y9 (2019), the OPPO A7 and the TECNO Camon 11 Pro and we put them in a triple threat match to see which is worth your 25k in this comparison video.

Display

The Huawei Y9 (2019) packs a 6.5″ full HD plus screen with a resolution of 2340 by 1080, the Camon 11 Pro packs a 6.2″ display with a resolution of 1500 by 720 while the Oppo A7 packs a 6.2″ display with 1520 by 720 screen resolution. The Huawei Y9 (2019) wins here with its 1080p resolution display that also gives you a relatively large screen real estate for you to enjoy multimedia content or scroll through the web and social media. The even smaller bezels it has as compared to the rest of the phones is another win for the phone. In terms of screen brightness both indoors and outdoors, the Huawei Y9 (2019) excels here followed closely by the Camon 11 pro and the A7. The compact size of the Huawei Y9 (2019) gives it an upper edge when using with one hand as it’s less wide than the rest of its competitors. Generally, the Huawei Y9 (2019) wins this segment.

Usability

The phones all pack octa-core processors with Android 8.1 Oreo and 64GB of internal storage. The Huawei Y9 (2019) is rocking the Kirin 710 processor with 4GB RAM, the Camon 11 Pro carries a Mediatek Helio P22 with 6GB of RAM and the OPPO A7 packs Snapdragon 450 processor with 3GB RAM. Despite having the best performance, the Camon 11 Pro disappoints when it comes to software. Get ready for the annoying user experience of HiOS, full of ads and numerous apps that have no clear purpose. The Huawei Y9 (2019) EMUI is not an angel either but it was generally easier to use since it has been watered down. ColorOS on the Oppo A7 is another hurdle – it’s a mess of iOS clone.

Cameras

All phones pack dual rear cameras with the Huawei Y9 (2019) packing dual selfie cameras setting itself apart in this race. The TECNO Camon 11 Pro and the Huawei Y9 (2019) have AI optimization features although the latter works best with scene detection. The Huawei Y9 (2019) packs 13MP and 2mp rear cameras with dual 16MP and 5MP selfie cameras. The TECNO Camon 11 Pro packs a 24MP selfie shooter and 16MP with 2MP for portraits, while the OPPO A7 packs 13MP and 2MP rear cameras with 16mp selfie camera. The photos taken by all the phones look decent but those shot on the Y9 look slightly more impressive. Here are some samples(click to expand) with more in the video.

Night shots are pleasing too with Huawei Y9 (2019) taking advantage of its night mode to bring out the quality of the photos taken during low light scenarios.

The portraits by the Camon 11 Pro and the Huawei Y9 (2019) look beautiful but you’d occasionally get unrefined edges depending on the mood the camera is in. Generally, for selfies, the TECNO Camon 11 wins here. The OPPO A7 lacks portrait mode on the front cameras but instead comes with AR-enabled stickers to add a dash of style to the selfies you take.

The AI mode on the Huawei Y9 (2019) outdid the Camon 11 Pro’s since it was able to detect scenes and optimize the camera The AI mode on the Camon 11 Pro did nothing and makes you wonder why they included it but you be the judge.

Gaming

The Huawei Y9 (2019) takes the champ out of this one. Even though it has less RAM than its counterpart, the Camon 11 Pro, that doesn’t stop Huawei Y9 (2019) from shining. With GPU turbo dedicated to improving your gaming experience, games lag less as compared to the Camon 11 Pro. The GPU turbo increases processor performance when demanding games are launched, improving the graphics while reducing the latency for gameplay and boosting average frame rates to the fullest possible rate with better battery efficiency. And this is a win for the Huawei Y9 (2019).

Battery Experience

The Huawei Y9 (2019) has a 4000mAh battery, the TECNO Camon 11 Pro has 3750mAh and the OPPO A7 rocks 4230mAh battery. All three phones perform really well when it comes to battery life and this comes down to personal preference but whichever phone you go with, it will not disappoint although the Huawei Y9 (2019) is the only one with intelligent power management options.

Conclusion

This triple threat match was a close with both phones rocking interesting specs but it’s the little details that make or break your decision to purchase the phone. The Huawei Y9 (2019) ticks all the checkboxes you would want in a phone plus the extra effort to add neat features that lack in its competitors make it a perfect choice of a smartphone to get. The TECNO Camon 11 Pro comes a second close while the OPPO A7 takes the third position.
