Tips for Getting the Best Wireless Phone Chargers

Lumia 820 Wireless charger

Wireless chargers are in trend because cell phones from various different manufacturers are compatible with them. Finding one that suits your needs well is challenging, however, especially if you are looking to cut the cord for the first time. This comprehensive guide will demonstrate to you all the specifications you should look for in wireless charger. Let’s dig in!

Qi Charging Standard

Wireless charging technology has been present for a while, but it took off only a few years ago. Qi is the most popular charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium. It defines wireless power transfer using inductive charging over distances of up to 4 cm or 1.6 inches. Giant smartphone manufacturers, including Apple, Samsung, and Google, are using this technology into their flagships. Right now, it is incorporated into more than 160+ smartphones, tablets, and other electronic gadgets. So, the first thing is to make sure that the wireless phone charger is Qi-compatible because it would only work if both devices – charger and smartphone, are Qi-compatible.

Power

Phones have different capacities to get charged. iPhones can charge at the max speed of 7.5 Watt, Samsung at 9 Watt, and other Android devices could charge at 10 Watt as well. So, buying the charger which charges less than your phone’s maximum speed is not the right choice. To be on the safe side, you should prefer buying a 10W charger. It will provide the max speed while charging a mobile phone, regardless of which one you have.

Multiple Charging Coils

Some wireless chargers have multiple charging coils, but they are only capable of charging a single device. However, others have multiple charging coils and can charge more than one device as well. A great example is Samsung’s dual charger. If you have two phones or two smart gadgets to charge. You could charge them at the same time using these wireless chargers.

Standard Connector

Wireless chargers get plugged into adapters to get connected to a wall outlet. Imagine buying a charger with weird proprietary jacks to plug in the pads. What will happen just in case it gets damaged or you lose it? Yes, you will have difficulty in finding a compatible cable. So, prefer buying standard ones like MicroUSB or USB-C, which are readily available.

Wall Adapter

Wireless phone chargers mostly come up with wall adapters. These wall adapters support their maximum charging speed as well. However, if you are purchasing a wireless charger whose packaging does not include a wall adapter, then make sure to use the one that supports enough wattage to charge at full speed of the charger. Otherwise, it would bottleneck the charger’s high-speed charging ability. For example, if a wall adapter is supporting only 5W and you bought an expensive charger that is capable of charging at 10W. You will receive the charging speed of the only 5W!

Well Reputed Brand

It is of no use to save some money by buying a cheap wireless charger and end up frying an expensive smartphone. The best wireless phone chargers manage to charge with high speed and pass electrical current with controlled limits. So, instead of trying new brands, stick to brands with a good reputation like Apple, Samsung, and Anker. Straying from trusted brands could damage your phone.

Design

You will find a variety of wireless chargers – big, small, flat, and some that charge your phone at an angle. You should choose one that suits you. For example: if you want to charge your phone on the desk while working, then consider buying an angled charger. That way, you could see notifications easily without having to hover your head over the device. Contrarily, if you want to charge it at night, then buy a flat one, so you do not get irritated by the phone’s light every time you get a text. Do you want to use it anywhere? Convertible chargers are available as well.

Material

It does not play a role in charging speed, but material is about your taste and personal style. You can find leather chargers for a classy look, fabric ones if you like the color and style, or if the material does not affect you at all, then plastic one will work best for you. Plastic would also be available at comparatively fewer costs.

Works with a Case

You would not like to take your phone out of the case every time before charging it. Would you? So, consider buying a wireless charger that can charge your device through a case as well. In general, thick cases prevent the power to make its way in, but thin cases are good to go.

This wireless charging technology is prominent in the world of smartphones, but soon it will make inroads into every device from our future coworkers – robots to tiny IoT devices. Now, after reading these tips, you have much knowledge about wireless charger specifications. Follow them to buy a great wireless charger.
