The eagerly awaited OPPO Reno7 series has officially launched in the Kenyan market. Unlike its predecessor, the OPPO Reno6 5G, the OPPO Reno6 series now features a 5G version and a 4G version.

It’s also worth noting that the OPPO Reno7 5G ships with 5G already enabled.

Here’s how the two devices differentiate:

OPPO Reno7 5G

The OPPO Reno7 5G will be the premier OPPO device in the country.

OPPO Reno7 5G

OPPO Reno7 5G comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G processor and Mali-G68 MC4 GPU paired with 8GB RAM(plus 5GB virtual RAM) and 256GB of onboard storage(UFS 2.2).

It ships with Android 11 and ColorOS 12.1

OPPO Reno7 5G spots a 6.43″ 90hz AMOLED screen that also supports HDR10+.

OPPO Reno7 5G has a 64MP triple setup as well but with an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro sensor. A 32MP selfie camera is included too.

OPPO Reno7 front-facing cameras come with a Selfie HDR feature that the company says will be able to detect light conditions using AI and automatically apply image enhancement algorithms based on the type of conditions detected.

OPPO adds that this will enables users to easily capture high-quality selfies with natural colours and ultra-fine details.

Other camera modes to play with include Bokeh Flare Portrait and AI Portrait Enhancement.

OPPO is also boasting of the portrait capabilities of the Reno7 series calling it the Portrait Expert. The OPPO Reno7 Series ships with a custom-made SONY IMX709 sensor that also features the next generation flagship RGBW for the selfie camera for clearer and brighter image capture in low-light conditions.

OPPO Reno7 5G has a 4500mAH battery and supports 65W fast charging.

OPPO says that the Reno7 5G has been created by the innovative use of Laser Direct Imaging (LDI) manufacturing process on the exterior of a smartphone.

The use of LDI technology is the first time LDI has ever been applied to the exterior design of a mobile device. It is also the first time that OPPO itself has used laser engraving technology to perform additional precision processing on top of the OPPO Glow layer. This creates a visual and textural illusion of shooting stars streaming across the device that shine and fade into the black galaxy as the phone is held in the hand.

OPPO Reno7 5G comes in Starry Black.

OPPO Reno7 4G

OPPO Reno7 4G shipS with a Snapdragon 680 chipset and Adreno 610 GPU coupled with 8GB RAM(plus 5GB virtual RAM) and 256GB of onboard storage(UFS 2.2). Android 12 and ColorOS 12.1 run the phone.

OPPO Reno7 4G has a 6.43″ AMOLED screen and 90Hz refresh rate with the additional 180Hz touch sampling rate. The FHD+ screen is HDR compatible with Widevine certification.

OPPO Reno7 4G comes with a 32MP punch-hole selfie camera and a 64MP triple camera setup that also includes the 2MP microscope and 2MP depth sensor.

OPPO shares that the Reno7 4G is the first smartphone to launch with a Microscope lens in the country.

There’s an Orbit Light underneath the Micro lens to provide additional illumination while the Micro lens is enabled.

Right out of the box, the OPPO Reno7 flaunts the company’s self-developed Fiberglass-Leather design coupled with a thin and lightweight body.

OPPO Reno7 4G series comes in two colours – Sunset Orange and Cosmic Black. The former uses the aforementioned Fiberglass-Leather design to bring that new tactile texture which is combined with a bright orange colour tone to exude that premium feel.

The Cosmic Black version uses the iconic OPPO Glow effect to create a back cover that is glossy in appearance with a fingerprint-resistant matte texture.

OPPO Reno7 4G packs a 4500mAh battery that supports 33W SuperVOOC fast charging.

Other features the two phones share include an optical under-display fingerprint sensor, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, IPX4 splash protection, dual nano-SIM card(no MicroSD card slot) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Inside the box, expect a power brick and a USB-C charging cable.

Pricing and Availability

OPPO Reno7 5G and 4G versions will be sold at OPO’s and Safaricom’s retail stores countrywide and on e-commerce sites like Jumia, Kilimall and SkyGarden.

Pricing starts at Ksh 42,999 and Ksh 59,999 for the 4G and 5G versions respectively. Configurations start at 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage, 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage and 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage.

Pre-orders start today and sales go live on May 5th.

The launch which is being live-streamed on YouTube features well-known celebrities that include Bahati, Diana Marua and Wabosha Maxine to showcase its vast features and extensive capabilities.

We’ll be taking the OPPO Reno7 series(4G and 5Gversion) through their paces in our upcoming reviews so stay tuned for that.
