Vivo V27 5G Review

The recently launched vivo V27 5G has been my daily driver for the past few weeks and as my main camera smartphone – it had held up really well, especially in photography and videography.

I was left really impressed with our initial review and now that it has been more than a month – the phone still continues to excite me, especially its cameras.

I’ve taken this phone everywhere – having picnics with friends, night outs, and events, and each time I popped my phone out of my pocket to capture those memories – I was pretty sure I was going to get an Instagram-worthy shot or video. Not just with the main cameras but the selfie camera as well.

Vivo V27 5G Review: Top-Tier Camera Smartphone

This is what you need with a camera smartphone like the Vivo V27 5G – unquestionable photography performance.

Before I get to show you – let me mention the tech that powers all that.

The phone comes with a 50MP selfie camera with AutoFocus. It can shoot 4K 40fps video with portrait video capped at 1080p 30fps and they still look really good.

There’s a teleprompter mode for selfie videos which is pretty handy.

Vivo V29 5G Review: Mighty Midranger

The selfie videos look really good and colorful and sharp for TikTok and Instagram – even in low-lit scenarios

Switching to the back is the 50MP triple setup which includes the primary camera that has OIS. We get an 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP depth.

Video recording is capped at 4K as well at 30fps with the option to record at 1080p 60fps and 30fps.

The 50MP main lens was co-developed by vivo and Sony and has taken some of the best pictures I’ve seen this year from a midrange smartphone. The sensor offers a 59% increase in photosensitive area and 104% increase in single-pixel size area.

There are a lot of creative modes to play around with. I enjoyed toying around with the 24 vlog modes with templates for food, travel, night, and sports. The micro-movie mode was my favorite for short vlog-style videos which I loved making.

If you’re a TikTok creator or Instagram creator, then you’ll love fiddling with these modes to spice up your content creation process.

All the lenses support hybrid stabilization for steady videos that also come out with vivid colours, well-detailed and bright.

The photos are excellent. The quality is out of this world – the colours, the details, the sharpness, the background blur, sharpness, and dynamic range. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

It’s worth noting that the phone’s screen also supports XDR photo which allows HDR photos to be displayed vividly and realistically. [Link to HiRes Photos]

So if you’re looking for a perfectly peerless midrange camera smartphone, then the vivo V27 5G is the one to pick.

Everything Else

Vivo V27 5G is beautiful on both sides – the front and back. It has a slim and light profile, especially without the case. It has a dual curve design and a frosted anti-glare finish. This is a color-changing back made of Fluorite AG Glass. It is UV light sensitive and will change from light blue to dark teal if you get the Magic Blue version.

The screen is gorgeous with its curved design. It’s a 6.78-inch OLED with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, P3 wide color gamut, and brightness peaking at 1300 nits.

Vivo V27 5G Launch

Not only that, the phone’s display is Widevine L1 certified. I have binge-watched numerous titles on this phone and I get wowed each time by how beautiful it is – especially when watching high-contrasty movies or tv series.

The phone comes with Android 13 and FunTouch OS 13 baked right in. It has since received several updates which I really appreciate.

It recently got updated to Android 14-powered FunTouchOS 14.

Vivo V29, Vivo V27 Get Android 14 Update in Kenya

The phone is powered by Dimensity 7200 paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. You also get 8GB virtual RAM. I’m a heavy multitasker and moderate gamer and this phone hasn’t broken a sweat with all the shenanigans I put it through.

Powering the phone is a 4600mAh battery that has stood up rock solid with its performance. I have been finishing my days with like 20% with heavy use and it could pul a day and a half with moderate use.

The included 66W charger tops up the phone to full in under an hour. To get to half, you only to charge it for 15 minutes.

VERDICT

Vivo V27 5G continues to impress even after the honeymoon period and I really like that. From the excellent cameras, bright and beautiful screen, stylish design, solid performance and fast charging, and a long-lasting battery. I highly recommend getting this phone, especially considering its strong price-performance ratio.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

Vivo V27 5G goes for Khs 52,999 while the V27e starts at Ksh 37,999 at their official retail stores countrywide, and online at select ecommerce platforms.
