Honor has announced its latest device, the Honor Power, a midrange smartphone that significantly raises the standard in terms of battery life, performance, and display quality.
At the heart of the device is an 8,000mAh silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery, a standout feature that sets a new benchmark for smartphones in this segment. With a power density of 821Wh/L, Honor claims the battery supports up to 25 hours of continuous video playback, over 23 hours of navigation, and 14 hours of gaming—all while maintaining a slim profile of just under 8mm.
Performance is handled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, offering a 15% improvement in CPU efficiency and a 50% boost in GPU performance compared to its predecessor. Paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, the Honor Power ensures smooth multitasking and ample space for demanding users. These specifications bring flagship-level responsiveness to a more accessible price point.
The display is equally impressive, featuring a 6.78-inch OLED panel with a 1,224 x 2,700 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit colour, and a peak brightness of 4,000 nits. Honor also includes 3,840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, a feature aimed at reducing eye strain, especially during prolonged use—another addition not commonly seen in midrange devices.
On the camera front, the phone sports a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilisation, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a 16MP front camera, capable of recording up to 4K and 1080p, respectively. While not groundbreaking, this camera setup holds its own within the segment.
Other features include dual-SIM support, Bluetooth 5.3 with LDAC and aptX HD, NFC, and USB-C connectivity. The top-tier model even supports BeiDou satellite messaging and high-precision navigation, technologies generally found in premium smartphones.
With a starting price of CNY 2,000 (around KES 35,300), there is no doubt that the Honor Power challenges the notion of what midrange devices can offer.
While we might not see this particular phone launched officially in the Kenyan market, Honor’s latest release sets a new standard not just for users but also for manufacturers. So, it will be interesting to see what brands that operate in the country do in the next few months with their upcoming midrange devices.
