Samsung’s foldable roadmap has taken an unexpected detour. According to reports from The Bell and industry insiders, the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE and the innovative Galaxy G Fold (tri-fold) won’t be launching alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 in mid-2025 as initially expected.
Instead, both devices are now scheduled for a Q4 2025 release, giving Samsung more time to address production and chipset issues.
Galaxy Z Flip FE Chipset Challenges
The delay of the Galaxy Z Flip FE appears to stem from problems surrounding the Exynos 2500 chipset, which Samsung originally intended to power the device.
The company’s foundry is facing low yields on its new 3nm process, making mass production of the chip unreliable.
In response, Samsung may pivot to the Exynos 2400e, the same SoC used in the Galaxy S24 FE. While less powerful than the 2500, it’s a proven chip that could keep the Flip FE affordable and on schedule without compromising too much on performance.
Key specs expected from the Galaxy Z Flip FE
Designed as a more budget-friendly option in the Flip series, the Galaxy Z Flip FE is expected to include
- 6.7-inch foldable main display
- 3.4-inch cover screen
- Exynos 2400e SoC
- 8GB RAM
- Dual 12MP rear cameras and a 10MP selfie cam
With an expected price range of $650–$850, the Galaxy Z Flip FE aims to bring foldables closer to the mainstream, making the flexible display experience more accessible than ever.
Samsung Galaxy G fold
While the Flip FE is about affordability, the Galaxy G Fold is about bold innovation. Samsung’s first tri-foldable phone, rumored to launch under the “Galaxy G Fold” brand, will reportedly feature
- A 9.96-inch display when fully opened.
- A compact 6.54-inch height when folded.
- 298g weight.
- An inward tri-fold mechanism for improved screen durability.
This ambitious device is expected to land in the $2,500–$3,000 price range, clearly targeting power users, tech enthusiasts, and professionals who value multitasking on a large screen. Samsung is reportedly preparing to manufacture only 200,000 units initially.
Samsung plans to kick off mass production of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 in May 2025, with their global launch expected in July.
By pushing the Flip FE and tri-fold to Q4, Samsung is spacing out its releases to better manage supply chains and give each product a spotlight.
This delay may also give the company time to fine-tune hardware and software for a more polished user experience. While the delays can be frustrating, Samsung’s decision reflects a strategic pivot to ensure quality and reliability, especially in the emerging foldable market.
