Apple Music has introduced a new feature that enables users in Australia and New Zealand to effortlessly transfer their playlists and music libraries from Spotify and other streaming services directly into the Apple Music app.
This development is part of a limited rollout, with potential expansion to other regions in the near future.
To facilitate this transition, Apple has partnered with SongShift, a well-known third-party app renowned for transferring music playlists across various streaming platforms.
This collaboration has led to the integration of SongShift’s functionality directly into the Apple Music app, eliminating the need for external applications and simplifying the user experience.
Users can initiate the transfer process on their iPhone, iPad, or Android devices by navigating to the Settings app, selecting Apps, then Apple Music, and choosing the Transfer Music from Other Music Services option. This feature is also accessible via the web, providing flexibility for users across different platforms.
What Can Be Transferred
The transfer tool supports the migration of songs, albums, and user-created playlists from services like Spotify.
However, it’s important to note that curated playlists from other services are not supported. During the transfer, Apple Music matches the selected content with its catalog and adds it to the user’s library.
If an exact match isn’t available, the song is flagged as Needs Review, giving users the option to choose a suitable alternative manually.
Additionally, the original playlists and libraries in the other music service remain unaffected by the transfer, ensuring that users’ existing setups are preserved.
Availability
Currently, this feature is available exclusively to Apple Music subscribers in Australia and New Zealand.
While there is no official word on when the library and playlist transfer options might expand to other countries, indications suggest that Apple is planning to broaden the rollout in the near future. Signs of this feature first surfaced back in February 2024, when an Android user discovered a reference to the option in the Apple Music beta for Android.
For users in regions where the integrated transfer tool is not yet available, several third-party applications can assist in transferring playlists between streaming services:
- SongShift: An iOS app that allows users to transfer playlists between various music services.
- FreeYourMusic: A cross-platform app supporting multiple music services, enabling easy playlist transfers.
- Soundiiz: A web-based tool that facilitates the transfer of playlists and favorites between different music platforms.
With this new transfer tool, Apple Music is making it more convenient for users to switch from Spotify, preserving their music libraries and playlists.
