Samsung is gearing up for the release of One UI 8, its next major software update based on Android 16. As with every major update, some older Galaxy devices will unfortunately be left out. Although Samsung has yet to publish an official list, its established update policy gives us a good idea of which models will no longer be eligible.
Samsung typically provides three years of Android OS updates for its mid-range devices and four years for flagship models. Beyond this period, devices may continue to receive security patches, but they won’t benefit from newer Android features or major interface changes.
Based on this policy, here are the devices that are likely ineligible for One UI 8:
Samsung Galaxy S Series:
- Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra
- Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra
- Galaxy S20 FE
Samsung Galaxy Z Series:
- Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3
- Galaxy Z Fold 2, Z Flip 2
Samsung Galaxy A Series:
- Galaxy A72, A52, A52 5G, A52s 5G
- Galaxy A32, A32 5G, A22, A22 5G
- Galaxy A13 5G, A12, A12 Nacho
- Galaxy A03, A03s, A03 Core, A02, A01 Core
Galaxy M and F Series:
- Galaxy M33 5G, M23 5G, M14, M14 5G
- Galaxy F13, F23 5G, F14
Galaxy Tablets:
- Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022)
- Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro
- Galaxy Tab A8 10.5 (2021), Tab A7 Lite
- Galaxy Tab S7 FE
These models are expected to receive One UI 7, based on Android 15, as their final major OS update. While they’ll continue to get security updates for at least another year, users should not expect support for new Android functionalities or UI improvements beyond that.
Samsung’s One UI 8 is expected to deliver AI-powered features, better device personalisation, and more seamless integration across apps and devices. For users who want to enjoy these improvements, upgrading to a newer Galaxy model will be necessary. Recommended models include the Galaxy S22 series and newer, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and later, and the latest A and M series devices.
Samsung is likely to begin beta testing One UI 8 in September 2025, with a stable release starting in November 2025. The update will gradually roll out to eligible devices in early 2026.
