Instagram is expanding its video editing toolkit with the addition of an on-screen teleprompter in its standalone Edits app.
This new feature is designed to help creators deliver smoother, more confident on-camera performances by allowing them to read scripts while maintaining direct eye contact with the camera.
The Edits app, launched in April 2025, is Instagram’s response to the growing demand for mobile-friendly and powerful video editing tools.
Aimed at Reels creators and social media storytellers, it includes a wide range of features such as green screen effects, AI animations, up to 10-minute video capture, and high-quality exports without watermarks.
Real-time insights, timers, countdowns, and access to a music library round out its offering.
The upcoming teleprompter function fits neatly into Instagram’s strategy of attracting serious video creators and competing with apps like CapCut, owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance.
Instagram’s product lead, Tom Bender, highlighted that the app is being frequently updated in response to user feedback.
New features, including the teleprompter, volume control, and improved filters, are part of an ongoing effort to support a more streamlined and professional content creation experience.
With the teleprompter, creators will be able to display scripts directly on-screen during recording. This will reduce the need for multiple takes, improve speech delivery, and make the overall production process more efficient.
It’s a particularly useful tool for creators producing educational, scripted, or promotional videos where clarity and confidence are crucial.
Beyond the teleprompter, Instagram is also testing AI-powered features for the Edits app. These include automated background editing and tools to animate static images, helping creators produce more engaging content with minimal manual effort.
The app also includes a live insights dashboard that provides performance metrics on videos shared through Instagram. This allows creators to track viewership trends and engagement in real time, enabling data-driven content strategies.
