The race to making the most uniquely designed foldable smartphone is well underway as TECNO now seem to have thrown its hat in the ring with its own new tri-fold smartphone that would still be in its early development stage.
This comes at a time when we have seen other brands like Huawei surprise the world with their consumer-ready Mate XT tri-fold phone.
Dubbed TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold, the device is rumored to be a follow-up to the PHANTOM Ultimate 2, a tri-fold that was first introduced to the world at MWC 2025 in Barcelona.
However, the Ultimate G Fold is reported to be a different version of the PHANTOM Ultimate 2, which shared a similar design language with Huawei’s tri-fold device.
Unlike the Mate XT, which has both inward and outward folding screens, TECNO’s concept phone is said to feature dual inward folding displays and also be one of the thinnest of its kind.
This is reiterated by the name itself, that heavily suggests that the phone will showcase an innovative G-style design.
The phone’s hinge system will also be observed heavily as reports point toward a new mechanism that protects the flexible screen from being exposed when not in use.
It is also expected to help avoid unwanted scratches from impacts and other display accidents. This design would be TECNO‘s clever answer to the black screen dilemma that a number of Mate XT users have encountered.
The Ultimate G Fold is also said to be quite huge when unfolded, almost imitating a tablet. So it will be interesting to see if the phone is packed with features that cater to that particular design.
Nothing is concrete for now, but we will expect to see what more details come out as the concept phone moves through the stages of development.
