The Huawei Ascend P7 has been around for a while now. Launched on the 7th of May at an event in the French capital, Paris, Huawei’s 2014 flagship smartphone just became available in Kenya recently and as noted in our review, is one of the best-looking and well-crafted smartphones released this year. If you still remember then you know that back in January, English football club, Arsenal, entered into a partnership with Huawei that resulted in the Chinese company becoming the club’s official smartphone partner. To take that further, Huawei has designed an “Arsenal Edition” of its flagship smartphone for the ultimate Arsenal football club fan/supporter.
One of the Huawei Ascend P7’s greatest selling point is the 8 megapixel front-facing camera that allows users to take some very high resolution selfies or the awkwardly-named groufies. If the just concluded World Cup in Brazil is anything to go by, selfies in the beautiful game are here to stay. How about Arsenal fans and other stakeholders including the players do that in style using Huawei’s capable flagship? Looks like this is a sweet deal and buyers of the device will not only get one of the best flagship devices this year but also get to express their unwavering support for their beloved club.
Other than the Arsenal branding (crest) on the hardware and some tweaks to the software (Huawei’s custom UI modified to accomodate an Arsenal theme) to bring the Arsenal feel to the phone, it is the same Ascend P7 and there’s nothing that different. Same specs, same design. Just that it wears your club colours. There are a few pre-loaded apps to appeal to its intended market like BBC news, FIFA14 and several other sports apps.
There are no details on the pricing information though we wouldn’t be surprised if it sold at a price a little higher than the standard Ascend P7. Availability information is also scarce though we can expect the device to be available on Arsenal’s online store and partner dealer outlets around the world to take reach the club’s global fanbase.
