We have had the ability to set the audience for our posts on Facebook for a while now where you can set it to either public, friends,or me. Well, it seems Facebook wants to introduce another way of posting your thoughts on Facebook thanks to a test noticed by Cnet.
The new feature allows you to compose status updates that will only appear in your News Feed. Currently, the status updates you post on Facebook appear both on your News Feed and on your timeline. This is activated by ticking a checkbox next to the privacy settings written Hide From Your Timeline. The publication also noted that when you share a post from your NewsFeed, you are still greeted with the same options like share on your own timeline, share on a friend’s timeline and so on. It gets interesting: These News Feed specific posts will show up in search and will be listed on your Facebook activity.
Another publication, Engadget, reached out to Facebook about the new feature and were able to get the following statement:
The timeline on your profile is a great place to see a comprehensive history of your Facebook posts. WE’ve heard feedback that sometimes, you may want to share a post with friends and family via News Feed and not have that post be displayed on your Timeline. The ability to hide a post from your Timeline already exists, and today we’re testing a feature that would make it even easier to control where your posts live by giving you the option to publish a post only to News Feed and not to your Timeline.
This feature is currently on desktop and Facebook has not confirmed if it will be ported to the mobile apps, where the majority of Facebook users login to the social network.
