Sony Preparing Xperia X Compact and Xperia XZ Smartphones for IFA 2016 Unveiling

Sony has already made it clear that it is so done with the Xperia Z series that we will never see it come back in any form. What did we get in place of Sony’s most loved smartphone series? A couple of what would ordinarily pass for upper mid-rangers in the same league as Samsung’s Galaxy A9 or something of that sort posing as Sony’s flagship smartphones. To cement the Xperia X’s newfound status as the premium device range from Sony, a replacement for last year’s Xperia Z5 Compact is on the way.

If you thought that Evan Blass was done for the day, think again! Hours after giving us a more satisfying look at the upcoming LG V20 with a very articulate render, he’s back at it again! This time, with what appears to be the Xperia X Compact.

It is not alone. A Sony Czech site has recently leaked information confirming that the mysterious Xperia XZ (also referred to as the Xperia XR) that has been rumoured for a while does indeed exist.

Here are some renders of the rumoured Xperia XZ:

Both the Xperia X Compact and the Xperia XZ are said to have a strong focus on mobile photography.

We’re likely to see these Sony devices next week at IFA 2016 in Berlin since the company has already confirmed an event around that time.

Sony has quite a history with these Compact devices. The company has been releasing them for a while now. In fact, the Xperia X Compact, if it exists, will be the fourth member of the family alongside the Z1 Compact, Z3 Compact, and Z5 Compact. The Sony Xperia Compact series, as the name insinuates, is meant to be a safe haven for those who are intimidated or uninspired by the large devices with displays that are more than 5 inches. All this without watering down the core specifications that make the flagship devices they mimick as the competition (Samsung and HTC mostly) have been doing.
