Facebook expanded the like button in 2015 by introducing reactions, which was a great way of showing the appropriate reaction to a post rather than using the ambiguous like button. The reactions update was initially for the timeline for you to use on posts and now according to TechCrunch, it has been brought to messages and it brings a highly requested feature: the dislike button.
To activate the reactions on Messenger, you only need to hover and tap on the emoji button which will display the various reaction emojis that includes the dislike button on the extreme right. The publication reached out to Facebook to explain the new feature and they issued a statement: “We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message.”
This is indeed an interesting test being done by Facebook in many ways. First, they decided to test reactions on Messenger after rolling it almost one and a half years ago to the timeline. They also decided to incorporate the dislike button, which has been a highly requested feature, first on Messenger before the timeline, which is odd.
This is not the first time we’ve seen them do experiments with reactions. During mother’s day, they had a special reaction emoji for the day or that time they introduced Star Trek ones. We hope that this test gets out of beta fast so that we can use it and maybe the dislike button should be added to the regular reaction emojis on the timeline.
