Chrome CleanupWhile we enjoy surfing the web for entertainment and learning purposes, the exercise can be plagued by a myriad of things. One of these setbacks include unwanted software than embeds itself in your browser, which, knowingly or otherwise, makes the browsing experience a pain. In other cases, malicious or harmful software redirect traffic to unwanted pages that are packed to the brim with ads and pop ups. Personally, I have been a victim of these issues up to the point where a browser crawls to a stall and you have to reset things just to get rid of persistent and intrusive pages.

Browsers such as Google Chrome have been equipped with tools to fight this menace, but safety and peace of mind while browsing are yet to be met. One of Chrome’s tools include Safe Browsing that mitigates infections by warning users. It has not been as effective as harmful software mutates and evades the tool’s net. Other Chrome tools include the ability to detect a change in setting once upon running an extension.

Today, ESET, a cybersecurity company based in Slovakia has released Chrome Cleanup, which should build on the provisions of existing tools to offer a robust safety front without interruption while browsing using Google Chrome. The tool will be available for all users using the browser in Windows-based machines.

Chrome Cleanup should tame malware that hides in encrypted traffic, some of which install dangerous malicious code on a device. Functionally, the tool alerts Google Chrome users of possible threats when malicious software has been detected. Afterward, a user will be prompted to remove it. Furthermore, the tool works behind the scenes without interrupting the browsing experience, and only notifies users once it gets rid of a threat.

“Using the internet should always be a smooth and safe experience for everyone,” said Juraj Malcho, Chief Technology Officer at ESET. “For three decades, ESET has developed a number of security solutions that allow users to safely enjoy their technology and to mitigate a variety of cyber threats. Chrome Cleanup addresses unwanted software that can negatively influence a users’ experience on the internet.”

The tool is available in the updated version of Google Chrome.
