The much-awaited Huawei Y5 2019 is now available both online and in retail stores for purchase. If you enjoyed using last years Huawei Y5 Prime or you’re on the hunt for a budget phone that brings function and form, then the Huawei Y5 Prime 2019 will be a worthy upgrade for you and considering it now packs even better features.

Display

The Huawei Y5 Prime 2019 rocks a 5.71″ dewdrop display in a 19:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. It is protected by a 2.5D curved glass screen and the 84.6% screen-to-body ratio gives it a stylish almost bezel-less and premium design.

You also get the signature waterdrop notch that houses the selfie camera. The earpiece has been made into a slim tube shape while the ambient light sensor has been merged with the proximity sensor.

Cameras

The Huawei Y5  2019 packs a 13MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture to optimize for better low light shots compared to last years f/2.2 aperture. On the front, is the 5MP selfie shooter.

Software and performance

Under the Huawei Y5 2019 is the Quad-Core 2.0GHz ARM Cortex-A53 MediaTek Helio A22 (MT6761) processor and PowerVR GE8300GPU that run the device. You also get 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage which you can expand using a MicroSD card up to 512GB.

The Huawei Y5 2019 runs on Android 9.0 Pie on top of EMUI 9.0.

Battery

The Huawei Y5 2019 is powered by a 3020mAh battery

Other Features

The Huawei Y5 2019 also comes with other features such as Face Unlock and a rear fingerprint sensor for biometrics – this an improvement as last years Huawei Y5 Prime didn’t have the latter. Face Unlock is improved too as it can now detect up to 1024 feature points on your face to give you accurate and fast unlocking.

You also get Dual 4G and Dual VoLTE for faster connectivity.

The Huawei Y5 2019 will come in a variety of colours including Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, Modern Black, and Amber Brown(spots a faux leather back just like the Huawei Y6 Prime 2019)

“We are introducing a different style when it comes to design aesthetics. We now have a leather-like cover that is unique in texture and patterns, a bold and innovative step towards enhancing its aesthetic and technological appeal,” Steven Li, Deputy President Huawei Mobile said speaking of the Huawei Y5 2019.

Concerning the ongoing crisis between Huawei and other tech giants who have suspended business with them following the trade ban enforced by the USA president, Steven Li assured Huawei consumers that it does not affect local operations.

The company will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing products covering those sold locally or still in stock globally.

He added that Huawei will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem in order to provide the best experience for all users globally.

Pricing and Availability

The Huawei Y5 Prime 2019 will go for Ksh 11,499 across all retail stores in the country. Online you can find it on Jumia. A gift hamper is included for early buyers.
