WhatsApp is available on a lot of platforms, but also it has a lot of unofficial forks. One of these unofficial builds is GBWhatsApp and it has gained a following over time.

Well, today, the developers behind GBWhatsApp have announced that they are officially stopping support for the build via  a message on their Telegram channel.

“We are really sorry to announce that we have completely stopped the developments of GB WhatsApp. It was a great time with all you people. Sorry for the inconvenience. Hence we have closed all the site, social accounts and everything. There will be no further development.”

The move by the developers behind GBWhatsApp is no surprise at all.

WhatsApp has taken a strong stance against these forks this year where they started with temporarily banning users who used GBWhatsApp. This led to a situation where people said that they were banned from using WhatsApp for a specific amount of time that inconvenienced a lot of people out there back in April 2019.

WhatsApp went ahead to threaten permanent suspension to GBWhatsApp and WhatsApp Plus users in June 2019. They even gave a way for people to move their data from these unofficial WhatsApp forks so that they can go back to the original official builds.

The reason WhatsApp did this is because they said that these unofficial apps violated their terms of service. WhatsApp may have pressurized GBWhatsApp to stop developing the app and this is why they have decided to do this. WhatsApp Plus is definitely next on the list and we have to see whether they will stop developing that product too.
