If you use a lot of app shortcuts, you’ll notice that Instagram hasn’t yet implemented them. But now that’s about to change.
Android has had app shortcuts since Android 7.1 Nougat and users got to quickly access features of an app by long pressing to open shortcuts.
Most apps have had these shortcuts and they are now coming to Instagram at least according to some users.
Weirdly these app shortcuts were available for Instagram’s iOS app and gave direct access to features like Direct, View Activity, New Post and Camera thanks to 3D Touch that came with the iPhone 6S in 2015. iPhone 11 series don’t have 3D Touch so now app shortcuts will be unavailable.
According to Android Police, the update is rolling remotely and is limited for now. However, the necessary declarations for the app shortcuts can be seen on the app’s APK.
