nova 5T

nova 5THuawei has strong relationships with the Kenya telco and smartphone market. For smartphones, the Chinese manufacturer has sold its phones here for as long as I can remember, having popularized its position with the IDEOS from a decade ago.

While its strong position is low- to mid-range phones, Huawei has not failed to bring its high-end releases in Kenya. However, some of its handhelds, such as the nova series have not graced our shop shelves because the devices were initially made for other regions.

For housekeeping purposes, nova phones are the upper mid-range smartphones as some of them feature near flagships specs, but distributed on a lower price. To this end, Huawei is planning to bring one of the nova members to Kenyans named nova 5T.

The nova 5T is not a new device because it has been selling in other markets since September 2019. Its spec sheet is as impressive as you would expect as it is equipped by substantial amounts of memory, power and many cameras for snapping the best shots of the people and the world around you.

Below are some of specs of the nova 5T:

Screen: 6.26-inch LCD display, 1080p

OS: Android 9 Pie, upgradable to Android 10 with EMUI 10

Chipset: HiliSilicon Kirin 980 (same chip in the Huawei P30 series)

Memory: 128 GB, 8/6 GB RAM; no card slot

Cameras: Quad system at 48 MP (wide), 16 MP ultrawide, 2 MP (wide), 2 MP depth sensor; 32 MP selfie

Battery: 3750mAh with support for 22.5W fast charging,

The headphone socket, as expected, is missing. The selfie snapper is tucked in nicely in a punch hole on the display, and the fingerprint scanner is side-mounted.

We do not have pricing information, yet.

The nova 5T, admittedly, appears to be a mid-end product, and we only hope that its pricing will be attractive enough for it to actually make a mark in this competitive space that is packed to the brim with contestants from Xiaomi, OPPO and Samsung.
