Huawei Nova 5T

Huawei Nova 5T

Huawei Nova 5T was launched early this year and we ranked it as one of the best compact and powerful midrange smartphone.

You can read our full review here.

At launch, the device came with Android 9 Pie and EMUI 9.1. The Huawei Nova 5T then received EMUI 10 update and Android 10 that brought refreshed app icons that are now rounder and animated. There’s the system-wide dark mode that not only works on system apps but extends to third-party apps.

The overall update brought other UI/UX changes and new features from both Android 10 and EMUI 10 such as a revamped UI, a redesigned Quick Settings panel, redesigned Camera interface, and a simplified Settings Menu.

EMUI 10.1 is now rolling out to the device in Kenya after rolling out to the Huawei Nova 7i. EMUI 10.1

Unlike the Nova 7i, the Nova 5T still has access to Google’s services and apps including the Google Play Store. However, you can still access your favourite apps with these tips explained here.

Anyway back to the Nova 5T, the EMUI 10.1 update brings with it several features such as system performance improvements, a multi-window mode that now supports more third-party apps and multi-screen collaboration.

Other features include Huawei MeeTime, Cross-device photo gallery, Wi-Fi improvements by optimizing the stability of WLAN connection in some situations and improves Internet connectivity, new fingerprint animations, multi-device browsing and collaboration, dark mode optimization for third-party apps and improvement to the deterministic latency engine to provide you with a smoother system user experience.

The EMUI 10.1 update is designed to deliver a finer-tuned user experience with higher performance and more secure system. This operating system, based on distributed technologies, enables you to seamlessly interact across devices and enjoy a diverse range of practical features, including mobile office, in different scenarios. Install this update to facilitate a more intelligent lifestyle, reads the changelog.

How to Check for the Update

You can check for the update by going to Settings, scroll down to System & Updates, click on the Software update option and if you’re connected to a Wi-Fi connection, you can tap on the Check for updates button below. If it’s available for your phone, you can begin downloading.

You can also check on the Support app or the Software Update app.

After its downloaded, the update will be verified and installed immediately. The phone will keep restarting so don’t interrupt the update process.

If you haven’t seen the update, be patient as it’s a staged rollout and it will reach your device sooner rather than later.

Other Huawei phones expecting the EMUI 10 .1 update in Kenya include:

  • Huawei Mate 20 series
  • Huawei Mate 30 series
  • Huawei P30 series
  • Huawei Y9 Prime 2019
  • Huawei Y9s

Huawei Nova 5T is also eligible to get EMUI 11 when it launches next month. It will also likely get Android 11.

The Huawei Nova 5T goes for Ksh 33, 500(At launch, it went for Ksh 41,999) on Jumia and Huawei retail stores countrywide including the recently opened Experience centre in Sarit centre in Nairobi.
