The next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event is closing in, and instead of staying quiet until the big reveal, the company has started dropping hints early.
Over the past few days, Samsung has published a run of short teaser videos across its social channels, and every single one points to the same thing: a foldable phone with a noticeably wider, shorter shape than anything the company has released before.
None of the videos show the actual phone. Instead, they use everyday objects to hint at the new proportions. A chocolate bar gets snapped so that only a short, wide chunk is left. A pizza slice is framed to emphasize its width. A jigsaw puzzle is arranged into a stubby rectangle.

Splashes of paint come together to form the number eight, alongside lines like “A New Shape” and “Bold Stroke, New Shape.” None of it mentions a phone by name, but the shapes are consistent enough that the message is hard to miss.

Right now, current book-style foldables open up into something close to a small tablet, and when folded shut, they’re built to feel roughly like a normal smartphone, just thicker.
The shapes in Samsung’s teasers suggest something different: a phone that’s shorter and boxier when closed, which would open into more of a widescreen layout rather than a tall, narrow tablet. That’s a real departure from the aspect ratio Samsung has used since it started making foldables.
This isn’t coming out of nowhere. Rumors of a wider Samsung foldable have been circulating for months, and these teasers are effectively the company confirming that direction without saying so outright.
The expected lineup for this Unpacked event includes the Galaxy Z Fold8, a Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip8, along with a new Galaxy Watch.

The wide-format device is widely believed to become the Galaxy Z Fold8, while the more familiar tall-and-narrow design may get pushed to the Ultra model instead. None of that is officially confirmed, and Samsung could still land on different names.
The event itself is rumored for July 22 in London, though Samsung hasn’t made that official either.
There’s also a competitive angle here. Apple is expected to release its first foldable phone later this year, reportedly under the name iPhone Ultra, and it’s rumored to use a similar wide aspect ratio.
If that’s accurate, Samsung’s early teaser campaign looks like an attempt to stake its claim on the wider foldable format before Apple’s device even arrives.
Samsung isn’t alone in exploring this shape either. Huawei has already released a wide foldable in China, the Pura X Max, built around a large battery.

A few of the teaser clips lean on pink and light mauve tones, which has led to speculation about possible color options for the new devices, though that’s more guesswork than confirmed detail at this point.
Whether this wider shape becomes Samsung’s new standard or ends up as a one-off experiment, similar to the short-lived Galaxy Z TriFold, is still unclear.
What is clear is that Samsung wants people talking about it before Unpacked even starts, and based on how much attention these teaser videos have already gotten, that plan seems to be working.
