Huawei Y6p

Huawei launched the Y8p and Y6P phones a couple of days following a rumour of their release a few weeks ago. The devices are, according to their naming scheme, targeting the budget and midrange space that has been served by the Y series for an extended period in Kenya.

The Y8p costs KES 25000, whereas the Y6p costs KES 15000. These are attractive prices for what the phones bring to the table, but that is not the whole story because we have a lot of things to say about them, particularly the Y6p that we have in our possession.

Interested customers can walk into any retail shop and walk away with the phones. Those who would prefer online shopping should also be reminded that the smartphones are available via Jumia as well.

Those who will walk into a retail store will be given a free headset alongside another gift. These goodies are, however, only available for the next week.

Worth knowing, and we think this is relevant information for you to know, is that the devices do not run Google services. This means that you will download your apps in some other way, and not via the Google Play Store because Huawei and American companies are battling a business and political issue that we hope will be resolved eventually.

The devices ship with AppGallery, Huawei’s new app store that has some of the most popular titles. Those who find the store unsatisfactory can opt for other reputable stores such as Aptoide to supplement their app needs.

We have rounded up steps of getting your favourite apps in a previous story, so you may need to check it out.

Besides that, the devices, mainly the Y6p in my possession, are excellent in terms of how they are built. The Y6p beats any phone in its price range in the craftsmanship area, and that says a lot regarding how far Huawei has come.

We will share more details about performance, battery (it is excellent!), and how you can get around the Google ban and still have an excellent experience with the device.
