Sony held their long awaited PlayStation 5 event today where they were expected to reveal the price of their next generation console.

They finally revealed the price to be $499 for the model with the Bluray drive and only $399 for the digital model. These are very competitive prices and direct favourably to the Xbox Series X and Series S. The Xbox Series X in comparison will go for $499 and the Series S will go for $299.

The next thing that Sony announced was the launch day. The PlayStation 5 will be launched on November 12 in US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The rest of the world will get to purchase the PS5 on November 19th.

The PlayStation 5 is one of the 3 next gen consoles that have been announced by Sony and Microsoft. The PlayStation 5 competes directly with the Xbox Series X and it is less powerful than the Microsoft console on paper.

It has an 8 core AMD Ryzen CPU using the Zen 2 architecture that can go upto 3.5 Ghz. The GPU is based on AMD’s RDNA 2 Graphics core that can go upto 2.23 Ghz generating 10.3 Teraflops of power. The system shares 16GB of GDDR6 memory with a bandwidth of 448GB.s. The SSD is also pretty fast which runs at 5.5GB/s and its capacity is 825GB. All this power allows it to run 4K games upto 120fps, ray tracing support for better visuals and Sony also boasts its sound capabilities in game.

.

One of the reasons that people love PlayStation consoles are the wide selection of games. Sony did not disappoint here and they previewed most of these in June. Today, they previewed a number of games that will be available on launch. Demon Souls, Spiderman: Miles Morales and Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War will be launch titles. These will be priced either $49.99 upto $69.99 depending on the game.

Sony also says that for PlayStation 5 owners with PS Plus, they will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, fallout 3, God of War, Monster Hunter, Persona 5 and more

Sony revealed the prices of the accessories that you may use with your PS5. The Dual Sense controller will be $69.99, Pulse wireless headset will be $99.99. HD camera will be $59.99, Media remote will be $29.99 and the DualSense Charging Station for charging the controllers will be $29.99.
