The “api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll” is a file that comes with the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package. If the program is missing or damaged, Windows displays the api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll missing error message. It is a critical system file associated with the Universal CRT, and the program contains steps and functions. When the program is corrupt or missing, Windows will be unable to function well.

How to Fix the Api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll Missing Error?

The error often appears when a gaming app is running. Other apps that use the program include Microsoft Office, Skype, other video callings, and media player apps. The error will be displayed if Windows hasn’t been updated and correctly installed or if another software or malware has deleted the file.

Method 1: Install All Available Windows Updates

Microsoft provided the Visual C++ Redistributable update through Windows Update KB2999226. You could try installing the update to get the program file to fix the api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll missing error.

  1. Search for “Update” or “Windows update” in the “Start” button and click on the “Check for Updates” option. Windows will display any available updates;
  • Click on the “Install” option to install the update;
  • Restart your computer after installing the update and Open the program to see if it’s running smoothly.

Method 2: Download Visual C++ Directly From Microsoft

  1. Go to the official Microsoft website and select your system type;
  • Then find the program file and click “Download”;
  • Once the download is complete, open the .exe file and complete the installation;
  • Restart the system;
  • Open the program and check if it’s running smoothly.

Method 3: Re-register the Direct Link Library to Fix the Error

If the program is still not working after re-installation, you might need to re-register the DLL file to solve the issue.

  1. Use File Explorer to find the api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll file and click on it;
  • Select the ‘Choose another app” option;
  • Go through the Drive and choose REGSVR32.EXE from the system 32 folder or REGSVR.EXE from the Windows/System folder;
  • Open the file, and a successful registration message will be displayed.

Method 4: Repair Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package

If the program is missing or unsupported after multiple attempts at reinstalling and re-registering, you may have to repair the whole Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package.

  1. Select the “Programs and Features” option from the Control Panel;
  • Find the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (*64) package and select the “Change” option after right-clicking it;
  • Select the “Repair” option;
  • Click “Yes” on the prompt box and follow the instructions required to complete the repair process.

Method 5: Download Updated Universal C Runtime

You could try downloading the latest updated Universal C Runtime from the Microsoft website. Install the update and restart your computer before checking if the program is now working.

Alternative Solutions If the steps mentioned above didn’t solve the issue, you might want to try reinstalling Windows. If you are not a software expert, it would be a good idea to seek an expert’s help. “api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll” is crucial to the functioning of the system software and other related application software. Without this program, you may not be able to play games, make video calls, watch videos or use the system effectively.
