You’ve heard and seen of smartphones with colour gradient backs which mostly features on plastic or glass-backed smartphones. Infinix is pushing that tech much further with its Future Light Painting Leather technology.
The technology works when UV light interacts with the smartphone’s back cover, adding innovative and flexible colour options which Infinix says will allow its smartphone users to express their style and mood.
This world’s first innovation marks a huge step forward in technological breakthroughs for Infinix and sets a new standard for leather back covers on smartphones.
How It Works
Future Light-Painting Leather technology is a reversible colour change technology that occurs when exposed to UV light. Infinix says that photochromic polymers are integrated into the leather, where the molecular structure changes in the presence of UV light which causes the colour changes.
When users take their device back indoors the leather reverts back to the original colour.
Infinix adds that this is a passive colour-changing technology that does not require additional energy from the smartphone to produce colour changes. It breaks the limitations of traditional leather with a single colour and will bring a new look to smartphones with two or multiple colour switches.
Users can get creative and try different patterns on the back cover giving users endless possibilities to customize their device.
Infinix says that their engineers took six months to develop and test the Future Light Painting Leather technology hundreds of times to achieve the desired effect.
To deal with yellowing leather, Infinix had to adjust the leather’s structure to make sure that the original colour remained vibrant after extended use.
Additionally, the back cover maintains a thin profile in a complex structure, providing a comfortable grip for the user along with strong protection against knocks and drops.
When To Expect
Infinix says that the Future Light Painting Leather back cover will be featured on its future devices – probably starting with its flagship Zero series and midrange Note line.
“Infinix seeks to improve the aesthetic experience of the modern-day smartphone through the use of innovative materials and fresh new colours. With Future Light-Painting Leather technology, users can experience satisfying colour-changing as well as custom patterns created by shading light on the back cover of their smartphone,” said Manfred Hong, Senior Product Director of Infinix.
“It introduces a unique way for our customers to interact with their smartphones and to express themselves,” Manfred continues.
