TECNO has forged its path in the foldable smartphone market with the arrival of the Phantom V Fold which was announced in MWC early this year.
The company brought the V Fold to Kenya in late April and is the second available book-style foldable besides the Samsung Z Fold 4. In our review, we mentioned that as the first-gen product from TECNO in the foldable space, the V Fold got a lot of things right. It came with a flagship design, flagship performance, quality cameras, fast charging, and a long-lasting battery.
Now the company is gearing up to launch a more fun version in the flip style to compete with the Samsung Z Flip 4 from last year in the country or the upcoming Z Flip 5 that’s due for launch in the next few months.
It is expected to carry the same features or even better than the V Fold when it comes to specs. It might be powered by a high-end MediaTek chipset probably the DimensitY 9200 with RAM going all the way to 21GB(12GB of RAM with an additional 9GB virtual RAM) and upto 256GB storage.
The screen will probably be a LTPO AMOLED screen at 2K resolution with 120Hz refresh rate and 1100 nits of peak brightness.
TECNO might decide to ship the same cameras from the V Fold to the V Flip including the 50MP main, 50MP telephoto with 2X optical zoom(20x Digital Zoom) and 13MP ultrawide. We might also get the same 32MP selfie camera.
The main cameras should be able to record video at 4K 60fps and 4K 30fps for ultra steady.
TECNO will probably include a 45W charger for the Phantom V Flip as well.
We’ll have to wait and see as the foldable smartphone market gets crowded with multiple players.
