Just as the global market is still getting used to the foldable smartphones that have been upgrading for a number of years now, it looks like Tecno has more ideas that definitely will spark interest. The Chinese tech brand unveiled a new concept dubbed Phantom Ultimate 2, a tri-fold concept device whose screen unfolds 10 inches in diagonal.
As it stands, current horizontal foldables already offer form factors that would be described as ‘small tablets’. With the Phantom Ultimate 2, the phone would offer an even larger screen that almost rivals full-sized tablets. It can unfold from a 6.48-inch display to a 10-inch LTPO OLED screen with a 1,620 x 2,880px resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio.
This concept is Tecno’s second following the Phantom Ultimate rollable device that was revealed last year.
According to Tecno, the Phantom Ultimate 2 is the first foldable with TDDI technology designed to place both the display driver and touch sensor on a single chip. It also features screen hovering and is impressively thin, sitting at just 11mm thin when folded. This is thanks to a self-developed dual hinge mechanism which Tecno claims to have tested for 300,000 folds.
The dual hinge is also built to help minimise screen crease in the middle of the display although that would remain to be seen as current foldables still struggle with that to this day.
There are no plans by Tecno to launch this device as it stands but it certainly would be an exciting concept to see in the future.
