Foldables have been on the rise as more manufacturers are releasing new options to meet the growing demand. Here is what we know about the newly launched Xiaomi Mix Fold 3.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Design and Features
The foldable comes with composite fiber or glass back options. The composite fiber model measures 10.86mm thick when folded and 5.26mm when unfolded while weighing 255 grams. The glass model weighing 259 grams is 10.96mm thick. Notably, this is not as this as the HONOR Magic V2 launched last month.
As for the display, Mix Fold 3 comes with a large inner display of 8.02 inches in size with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz while the 1080p cover display has a size of 6.56 inches. It is important to note that Xiaomi has not commented on any specific IP rating with the Mix Fold 3 in regard to water resistance.
Another impressive feature of the Mix Fold 3 is its camera system. The foldable has four rear cameras which include a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, a 10 MP telephoto and a 10 MP periscope zoom camera.
Significant Hinge Upgrade compared to Mix Fold 2
The Mix Fold 3 has seen a major upgrade on its hinge technology offering more flexibility as compared to its predecessors. The proprietary hinge technology has 3 connecting structures with 14 micro hinges enabling a lighter and slimmer design. According to Xiaomi this hinge can withstand up to 500,000 folding cycles.
The foldable can be unfolded partially at any angle between 45 degrees and 135 degrees while Xiaomi’s previous foldables did not offer this versatility as they could only: either open fully or close completely.
Under the hood
The Mix Fold 3 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 “Leading Version” SoC (System-on-a-Chip) with a 3.36GHz CPU clock-speed and a 719 MHz GPU clock-speed. It has a 4,800 mAh battery which Xiaomi claims has a 22-hour battery life. In addition, the foldable comes with 67W wired charging, and 50W wireless turbo charging.
Other notable features include dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support, Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled as well as Xiaomi’s proprietary MIUI Fold 14 (Android 13).
Prices and Availability
The Xiaomi Fold 3 is currently available in China only, with no mention of a global release yet. It has a starting price of 8,999 Yuan, which is approximately $ 1,238.90 for the base model with the sale starting on August 16th. The foldable is available in 12GB/256Gb as the base model and a 16GB/1Tb model going for 10,999 Yuan (around $1,515).
Xiaomi has not yet made any comments on if or when the Mix Fold 3 will be available to the international market. However, given that its predecessors are yet to hit the global markets, it remains unlikely that there will be an international release.
