Xiaomi has unveiled its new AI-powered smart glasses, making its first step into the wearable tech space.

Revealed during the company’s “Human × Car × Home” event in China, the Xiaomi AI Glasses are designed to merge fashion with futuristic features, offering a lightweight build, smart capabilities, and AI integration that provide everyday convenience.

The glasses feature a minimalist design and come in three colours; black, brown, and green. Despite incorporating advanced technology, they weigh only around 40 grams, ensuring comfort during prolonged use.

A standout feature is the electrochromic lenses. On the standard model, these adjust to lighting conditions, while the premium variant offers colour-shifting lenses that respond to touch, cycling through hues like purple, blue, pink, and grey.

Both versions are IP54-rated, meaning they resist splashes and dust, and are built with titanium hinges for durability.

Under the hood, the glasses run on Xiaomi’s custom Vela operating system and are powered by the Snapdragon AR1+ platform. They are equipped with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4, allowing the glasses to pair easily with Android and iOS devices, particularly those using Xiaomi’s HyperOS.

A key hardware feature is the 12 MP Sony IMX681 camera mounted in the frame. It enables 4K photo capture and 2K video recording at 30 frames per second, supported by optical image stabilization.

The audio setup includes dual speakers and five microphones, with a bone-conduction mic for clearer voice input, making it ideal for calls, voice commands, and media playback.

AI functionality is central feature on the product. Users can translate written text, identify objects, analyze food for calorie content, and even read QR codes for payments.

These actions can be triggered through voice or gesture input. The glasses also support real-time transcription, useful in meetings and lectures.

Powering all this is a 263 mAh battery that lasts up to 8.6 hours of continuous use and about 21 hours on standby. A full charge via USB-C takes roughly 45 minutes.

The Xiaomi AI Smart Glasses went on sale in China today. Prices start at 1,999 yuan (about KES 36,000) for the standard model, 2,699 yuan (about KES 49,000) for the single-color electrochromic version, and 2,999 yuan (about KES 54,000) for the multicolour model.

Although there’s no word yet on when they’ll be available worldwide, interest is already starting to build.
